Music: Act 1 - Where the Wind Rustles | YT KHin NES I would rather not sit through three conversations of "Yes, Fernand is an asshole, but try to like him please?". Like, I know we've been alluding to a future Clive support, but imagine what a (more than likely) Fernand/Clive support would have been like. But alas, that backstory doesn't really make up for the bad introduction and in-your-face assholery Fernand embodies. It just feels like they wanted to give Alm more named antagonists for his route, since the only ones he faced in the original were Desaix, Nuibaba and Rudolf, but like Slayde earlier, Fernand is made into "Generic asshole #15648" but now with a mildly sympathetic backstory that is meant to tie into the overarching story. Or just better integrate Fernand into the Deliverance, because from minute one, SoV does everything it can to make Fernand stand out, and in a bad way. If they did go the Shinon route for Fernand, they'd probably have to create something like a Rolf counterpart or even a Gatrie counterpart to help flesh Fernand out. I wouldn't want to recruit Algus in FFT, and Fernand is basically one scene screaming about ANIMALS HAVE NO GOD away from that, even if he makes slightly more sense. ugh, we'll talk about it when we get there.īasically. Fernand is supremely unlikable, basically.Ĭlive's isn't the only cringy support, but Clive really does have just. I mean, they could've pulled a Shinon with him, I just don't know how much I'd actually want him on my team. Honestly, we've already got Clive to slow us down as is. I personally think that dealing with his fuckery the whole time would really suck though, especially given what he'll do soon enough in the story. That was eventually cut in favor of a DLC, but it is something. So here's an interesting fact, Fernand was originally planned to stay around and be a usable unit as part of Alm's story. Then again I imagine the demographic that would play a remake of an NES game deals with that enough at work as it is.Īlso all this talk of cringy support chains is making me dread more Clive. Honestly I kind of wish we hadn't had the obvious asshole leave to inevitably become a midboss, it would have been more interesting to be stuck with him pretty much the entire game and have to deal with/plan around his bullshit. I have no idea how that happened, but somehow Clive managed the impossible and hit two consecutive 1% chances.Īs for fountains: Give Gray all of the Defense. On the other hand, he's the only unit that has managed to get back-to-back Resistance level ups in any of my runs. And boy howdy, does Clive not disappoint in that category. If you were wondering where Alm's actual "prepromote with bad growths that's carried by their bases for a hot minute" type unit was, well here he is. IIRC, Clive also has the lowest sum total growths for the playable cast, just to drive it home how goddamn bad Clive is from a mechanical perspective. Clive is just awful in comparison to SoV's entire playable cast, and yes, I am including the FE Cipher DLC characters in that comparison as well. Practically everyone that can roll as a Cavalier will be infinitely better at the job than Clive can. I'd probably like you better if you weren't utterly mediocre and didn't have one of the cringiest supports in the entire game.įun fact: Clive isn't just "utterly mediocre", he is genuinely the worst character from a stats perspective in this game.
